So You Want to Get Into Internet Marketing … Why?

If you have the idea that internet marketing is some sort of pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, think again.  Many people get focused on the wrong things with internet marketing like …. How I made $10,000 a week in only 60 days!  Don’t let these flashy headlines get into your head.  With that being said, this can indeed happen, but I can guarantee you that this person who made this $10,000 a week was established with knowledge, a plan, had done testing and then executed it.

There are only a few that have come into internet marketing and succeeded right off.  But most times when you hear their stories, they have a friend that has been in the business a while and through them they gained knowledge and came up with an idea.

Way too many people in the business are working too hard to find an easy way to make fast money, buying WSO’s after WSO’s, instead of actually working the business.  All this leads to is information overload and a ton of money spent and nothing earned, I’ve been there.  Remember the reason these people put out WSO’s is to make money and yes there are some really good ones out there, but it’s the follow through that is critical.

If you are just starting out in internet marketing or have not yet made any money online, here is my suggestion … First off decide what you want to do.  If you don’t know what you want to do then get on forums and start talking to people and find out what they are doing, make connections and decide from there what you would like to get into. It might be Facebook marketing, Twitter, PPC, Adsense, Physical products, Making your own products, setting up sites etc.

Maybe you have a talent for writing, then you may want to do service products, such as writing articles and ebooks for other marketers.  If you are good with graphics, offer a graphics service.  This will get you in touch with people in all aspects of the market and help you with how you can make even more money.

Also looking around forums and seeing how many people are purchasing their products over and over is a good indication of who you can follow.  Now that doesn’t mean rush right out and buy everything they have ever put out, it just means that they are trusted by the community and won’t be selling you garbage or a one time wonder hit.

Things to remember …

Internet marketing is a business, not a hobby.  It takes work and consistency to make money in this business, just like any other business.  A master mechanic doesn’t get that certification just by doing oil changes.

Connect with people … This is extremely important.  Now this does not mean spending your days chatting on skype, although I have had days where that’s all I seem to have gotten done.  But in saying that I make sure that this is not just chit chat and that the conversation is actually going somewhere.

Set aside time for work and do just that WORK and nothing else.  This is the hardest thing marketers find to do and why most fail.  Things come up, the phone rings, children need to be picked up from school, laundry needs to be done etc.  Put your cell phone on low and if your friend is calling, call them back later.  You will end up losing your train of thought and time. So make yourself a schedule and do your best to stick to it, unless something comes up that just can’t be avoided.

As the saying goes, don’t keep all your eggs in one basket.  Believe me when I say this cause I did just that and then a Google update came along and hit me hard.  I knew better and could kick myself, but I was too busy making money doing what I was doing that I just let it slip by.  I am sure you can figure out what happened next … yep my income went down the drain in a heartbeat.  So I had to double time it to get my income back, but that taught me a huge lesson to make sure I had several streams of income.

Lastly, don’t be overwhelmed by this business and don’t try to learn everything.  It’s an ever changing business and you can’t learn it all.  But what you can do is learn one thing, do it well, make money and then move on to something else that will bring in another string of income.
